Bluffton Icon introduces Beaver-Pirate and more monthly sports calendar

Bluffton Icon's newest feature is a sports calendar. The monthly calendar includes all Bluffton University and Bluffton High School and Junior High athletic contests.

The Icon welcomes soccer groups, swim team and all other sport teams to submit your season calendars to be added to the Icon calendar.

Bob Inniger inducted into Hancock County Sports Hall of Fame April 11

Bob Inniger is one of seven persons and two national championship teams to join the Hancock County Sports Hall of Fame during the organization’s 31st annual banquet and induction. 

Inniger is vice president, business banking officer for Citizens National Bank. He is also treasurer of the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce. He is an Arlington High School and University of Findlay two-sport athlete.

BHS grad earns silver medal at NCAA indoor track and field championship

In a race on the national stage, Bluffton High School track standout Hannah Chappell-Dick, running for Eastern Mennonite University, had a strong finish to grab the silver medal in the mile at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field National Championships.  

Chappell-Dick completes an incredible indoor season with the race, earning All-American honors for the first time in her career.

Clay Wilson will sign letter of intent to play at Marian University

Clay Wilson, Bluffton High School senior, will sign a letter of intent to pole vault for Marian University, Indianapolis, Ind. He will sign the letter on March 18 at Bluffton High School.

Next spring, Wilson will join Head Coach Michael Holman, in Indianapolis, after a distinguished athletic career at Bluffton High School. 

In 2014, Wilson finished second at the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Division III regional track meet, jumping 14feet 4 inches.

Also, Wilson finished 3rd place at the OHSAA Division III state track meet, jumping 14-4.

Hannah Chappell-Dick South/Southeast Region athlete of the year

Bluffton HS track standout Hannah Chappell-Dick has been named the South/Southeast Region Athlete of the Year.  Eastern Mennonite's middle distance runner earned three gold medals at the ODAC Indoor Championships and will be participating in the NCAA Indoor Championships this weekend in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Chappell-Dick, a junior at Eastern Mennonite, was given the award by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association member coaches from the region.  She is the fastest woman in the region both at 800m and in the mile.

Levi Kistler named all-NWC second team; Rumer, Ault honorable mention

Bluffton's Levi Kistler, a senior, was named to the second team all-Northwest Conference in boys' basketball. Two Pirate teammates were named honorable mention.

Columbus Grove senior Jace Darbyshire was chosen as the 2014-15 NWC Player of The Year by Northwest Conference boys’ basketball coaches at the annual selection meeting in late February. Darbyshire received 113 total points to edge out Connor Lautzenheiser (CV) and Trey Smith (DJ) in the coaches’ voting.
