On Sept. 30, the Bluffton cross country team walked out of the school and onto the bus. They drove to the Riverdale Invitational: an unusually large Thursday meet of about 10 schools.

In year's past, the course, while fast, has been hard and uneven. This year, however, two days of rain softened the ground and made it much more pleasant to race on. The flat course, beautiful fall weather, and the high number of competitors helped many Pirates lower their times.Bluffton

Coach Peter Diller's team dropped a close 3-2 decision to Lima Bath Tuesday to finish the season with a 6-9 record. The match wasn't decided until a marathon contest at No. 1 doubles ended with the Wildkittens on top.

Ashlin Gable and Emily Sprague lost for only the second time this season in the deciding match, dropping one set in a tiebreaker and the third set 7-5 after leading 4-1.

Last Saturday, the Bluffton cross country teams travelled to Kalida to compete in the first ever Wildcat Invitational.

Only two days before, a victory for the girls at the Riverdale Invitational left many exhausted and happy, but the runners knew that they couldn't be satisfied just yet.

Jesse Gudakunst broke a 7-7 deadline with 1:11 remaining on the clock as Bluffton HS defeated Allen East on the road 14-7 on Friday. Gudakunst's TD was a dramatic 81-yard run.

The Mustangs took a 7-0 third period lead, but BHS answered with two TDs to win the NWC contest. Hunter Joseph passed for 142 yards in the game. Logan Sturgill had 7 solo tackles for the Pirates who are now 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the Northwest Conference.

Bluffton's girls soccer team traveled to Crestview on Saturday to challenge the Knights. The cold chilling breeze, and slight spit of rain didn't dampen the Pirates' spirits as they came ready to play with full force.

Jill Steinmetz scored the first goal for the Pirates not even a full five minutes into the game. Soon after, with revenge settling in the Knights' hearts, they worked together and scored a goal approximately eight minutes later.
