Bluffton High School girls tennis team lost a match to the weather and another to a Western Buckeye League team in this week's early action.

A home match with St. Marys was rained out Monday and will not be rescheduled. The Pirates lost at Van Wert Tuesday 4-1 as Ashlin Gable and Emily Sprague won at No. 1 doubles.

Other BHS competitors were Shannon Koch, Jess Hunter and Rachel Sehlhorst in singles and Kristi Geiser and Liz Diller at No. 2 doubles.

The Ada Bulldogs stopped Bluffton HS 42-6 on Sept. 24. Bluffton's lone TD was a Hunter Joseph 49-yard pass to Jacob Nienberg in the second period.

Ada took a 21-6 halftime lead. The Bulldogs extended that lead to 35-6 after three. Ada scored once in the final period.

Jeremy Basinger was in on 12 tackles for the Pirates. Drew Luginbuhl was in on 10, eight of which were solo tackles. Luginbuhl caught six passes for 129 yards in the loss.

Herron 6th at Van Wert Co. Hos. Inv.

The Bluffton High School cross country team competed Saturday at the Van Wert County Hospital Invitational, the site of their upcoming conference meet.

The girls placed 7th of 13 teams and the boys placed 13th of 16. Competition was tight, and Bluffton ran in the faster of the two divisions.

BHS boys' cross country team

The Bluffton HS cross country team travelled to a quad-meet at Bath last Thursday. The host team, Bluffton, Kalida, and Lima Senior all competed. The boys and girls ran together, as there were only 59 runners present.

Bluffton dominated the field, as both teams ran their way to a win. A pair of Bluffton runners led the way for the Pirates, each grabbing first place: Matthew Herron for the boys and Hannah Chappell-Dick for the girls.
