BHS girls basketball grounds Rockets

Playing at home, the Bluffton High School girls basketball team got off to a big lead and defeated non-conference foe Pandora-Gilboa easily 59-27 Saturday afternoon, January 14.

Bluffton improved to 10-5 overall with the win as they increased their home record to 8-1.

BHS boys basketball edged by Carey

The Bluffton High School boys basketball team lost to visiting Carey 47-43 in a close non-league bout Saturday night, January 14.

The Blue Devils trailed 26-21 at halftime, but turned the game around with a 17-8 third period. Five Carey players hit baskets in the momentum-changing quarter.

The teams played to a taut 9-9 tie in the fourth quarter. 

The combatants were tied 13-13 after the first period, but Bluffton spurted to a five-point intermission lead behind a 13-8 second quarter.

BHS boys basketball sinks Vikings

Head coach Todd Boblitt wins 200th game

The visiting Bluffton High School boys basketball team defeated Leipsic 73-64 in a Northwest Conference battle Friday night, January 13.

The Pirates led 19-15 after the first period, and extended their margin to 39-30 at halftime. 

The Vikings cut their deficit to 53-49 heading to the fourth period.

But in the final stanza, the Pirates prevailed 20-15 to win by nine.

P-GHS boys basketball overwhelms Vanlue

The Pandora-Gilboa High School boys basketball team got back on the winning track Friday evening Jan. 13 and remained unbeaten in the Blanchard Valley Conference. The Rockets jumped ahead early and never looked back, overwhelming the Vanlue Wildcats by a final of 78-31.

After one quarter, P-G had a slim 14-10 lead. The second quarter was the back breaker for the Wildcats. The Rockets exploded for 32 points, taking a 46-20 lead into halftime.

BHS girls basketball loss to Vikings

Playing at home, the Bluffton High School girls basketball team gave league-leading Leipsic all it could handle before losing 51-49 in a Northwest Conference battle Thursday evening.

Bluffton fell to 9-5 overall and 1-3 in the NWC with their first home loss in eight games. The Viking girls improved to 14-1 and 5-0 in the NWC to stay a half-game ahead of 4-0 Delphos Jefferson atop the league standings.

BHS swimmers compete at Napoleon and Ottawa Glandorf

Pirate records continue to fall

The Bluffton High School boys and girls swim teams finished strong at Ottawa Glandorf on Monday night, Jan. 9. The boys finished first and the girls finished second. Teams from Kalida, McComb, Miller City, Ottawa Glandorf, Pandora-Gilboa, Saint Marys Memorial and Van Wert High School competed.

The boys were followed by Saint Marys Memorial and Ottawa Glandorf. The girls finished second with Ottawa Glandorf taking first and Saint Marys taking third.

Freshman Jenna Downey reset her 100 backstroke record with a new time of 1:07:21.

The teams also competed in a double dual at Napoleon on January 3, 2023 against Napoleon and Whitehouse Anthony Wayne. The boys finished first against Anthony Wayne and second to Napoleon. The girls finished second to Anthony Wayne and second to Napoleon.
