BHS girls basketball victory vs Defiance includes 20-8 quarter

The Bluffton High School girls basketball team used a big second period to defeat visiting WBL foe Defiance 55-45 in a non-league game Tuesday evening, January 17.

Bluffton improved to 11-5 overall with the win. The Pirate girls improved to 9-1 at home with the victory. 

Slumping WBL foe Defiance fell to 1-12 with the defeat.

The Pirates and Bulldogs were tied 11-11 after the opening stanza.

But a 20-8 second quarter shot Bluffton into a 12-point halftime lead they basically held onto the rest of the game.

Women's Basketball, Jan. 14

The Bluffton University women's basketball team led from start to finish in a convincing 72-56 demolition of visiting Franklin College on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023. The Beavers improved to 11-4 overall and 6-3 in the Heartland Conference following an exciting Alumni Day game that ended in a 52-52 tie.

BHS swim team in top five at Lions Invitational

The Bluffton High School swim team competed in the Lions Invitational hosted by Wapakoneta High School at the Wapakoneta YMCA on Saturday, January 14.

The girls team finished in second with 192 points behind Ottawa Glandorf with 256.50 points. The Lima Shawnee team finished in third place with 188.50 points.

The boys team tied for fourth with Ottawa Glandorf with 143 points. The Wapakoneta boys won with 263 points, with Lima Shawnee in second with 205 and Saint Marys Memorial in third with 152.

Playing at home, the Bluffton High School girls basketball team got off to a big lead and defeated non-conference foe Pandora-Gilboa easily 59-27 Saturday afternoon, January 14.

Bluffton improved to 10-5 overall with the win as they increased their home record to 8-1.

BHS boys basketball edged by Carey

The Bluffton High School boys basketball team lost to visiting Carey 47-43 in a close non-league bout Saturday night, January 14.

The Blue Devils trailed 26-21 at halftime, but turned the game around with a 17-8 third period. Five Carey players hit baskets in the momentum-changing quarter.

The teams played to a taut 9-9 tie in the fourth quarter. 

The combatants were tied 13-13 after the first period, but Bluffton spurted to a five-point intermission lead behind a 13-8 second quarter.

BHS boys basketball sinks Vikings

Head coach Todd Boblitt wins 200th game

The visiting Bluffton High School boys basketball team defeated Leipsic 73-64 in a Northwest Conference battle Friday night, January 13.

The Pirates led 19-15 after the first period, and extended their margin to 39-30 at halftime. 

The Vikings cut their deficit to 53-49 heading to the fourth period.

But in the final stanza, the Pirates prevailed 20-15 to win by nine.
