Bluffton police department brings SafetyPup to town

The Bluffton police department this spring will continue its 20th annual child safety and drug education program for youth in the Bluffton area, according to Rick Skilliter, Bluffton police chief.

"We have found the diversified material and services of the National Child Safety Council to be positive and up-to-date," he said. "We have received several thank you letters from children and parents regarding this program."

Alumna, Mennonite educator to speak at Bluffton graduation

Elaine Moyer, associate director of the Mennonite Education Agency (MEA) and a Bluffton University alumna, will return to her alma mater as commencement speaker on Sunday, May 9. The ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. in Salzman Stadium.

Moyer earned a bachelor's degree in health and physical education from Bluffton in 1972 and later served the university as a faculty member, administrator, coach and, most recently, as a trustee from 1991-2009.

May Day turns 100 at Bluffton University

Bluffton University will celebrate its 100th May Day weekend May 6-9 with traditional alumni reunions, student activities and graduation events.

Riley Creek Festival returns to Bluffton campus April 24

Bluffton University will host the seventh annual Riley Creek Festival beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 24, on the Neufeld Hall lawn.

The event is free-except for lunch-and open to the public. Lunch, served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., is $6 for adults and $3 for children.

"Wild, Wild West" is the theme of this year's festival, a day of music, entertainment, games and, starting at 3:30 p.m. at the College Avenue bridge, the annual rubber duck race down Riley Creek. A racing duck may be purchased for $1, with all proceeds going to the American Red Cross.

Sarah Diller thinks she knows why she has been drawn to theater from a young age.

The Bluffton University junior says "I'm the classic middle child-the Jan Brady Syndrome," referring to the attention-starved middle daughter on "The Brady Bunch" of '70s sitcom lore. "That is the sole explanation for why I'm in theater."

BVHS Service of Remembrance in Findlay April 25

The ninth annual BVHS Service of Remembrance will be held at the First Presbyterian Church at 2330 South Main St., Findlay on Sunday, April 25 at 2 p.m.

The non-denominational memorial service will honor BVHS patients and residents who died in 2009. All are welcome to attend the service, which will be followed by a reception.
