MMH Auxiliary holds soup and sandwich supper March 8

The 9th annual soup and sandwich supper hosted by the Mennonite Memorial Home women's service group is in early March. The event is from 4 to 6:30 p.m., Monday, March 8, at the Home. It offers a take-out or dine-in option.

There will be serving three soups; ham and bean, chicken noodle vegetable and broccoli cheese soup. Also served will be sloppyjoes, hot dogs, and pulled pork sandwiches, cornbread muffins and a selection of desserts.

"The cost for the dinner is on a donation basis. If you have any questions please call 419-358-1015," said Julie Stratton.

Sherwood "Jake" Huser, 1920-2010

Sherwood "Jake" Huser

Sherwood "Jake" Huser, 89, of Pandora, died at 7:50 p.m., March 5, 2010, at Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora.

He was born March 9, 1920, in Lima, Ohio, to Philemon and Elizabeth (Basinger) Huser.

Mr. Huser was a retired painter. He was a member of Pandora United Methodist Church, was a life member of the Pandora American Legion Post 616 and was a graduate of Pandora High School.

As a World War II veteran, he was a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge.

Celtic night March 13 in Town Hall Concert Series

Celtic night is the theme of the Town Hall Concert Series at 8 p.m., Saturday, March 13, according to Wendy Chappell-Dick.

The series is held on the third floor of the town hall and admission is by donation.

Bluffton, originally called Shannon Ohio is known for the nearby Swiss Settlement, however the town itself was founded by Irish settlers. On March 13 we celebrate Bluffton's Celtic heritage in honor of St. Patrick's Day.

Minnesota college choir performs at Trinity Lutheran March 9

The 61-voice Martin Luther College Choir from New Ulm, Minnesota, will present a concert "Speak, O Lord" at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 301 N. Main St., Jenera, at 7 p.m.,Tuesday, March 9.

The choir will sing familiar Christian hymns accompanied by brass, organ, timpani, piano, woodwinds and strings. There is no admission charge but a freewill offering will be received to help cover tour expenses.

Martin Luther college is the worker training college of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod.

Former resident solos with orchestra

James Pannabecker

James Pannabecker formerly of Bluffton, will perform Robert Schumann's Piano Concerto Op. 54 with the Rockbridge Community Symphony Orchestra, March 6 at Lexington, Va., Presbyterian Church.

Pannabecker of Natural Bridge, Va., is a 1970 Bluffton High School graduate and 1974 Bluffton College graduate. He earned his Juris Doctor and Master of Regional Planning degrees from the University of North Carolina. He is the author or co-author of 23 books related to banking and mortgage lending, as well as numerous articles, poems, short stories and more.
