December in Bluffton - something for everyone

The community of Bluffton invites its residents and residents from surrounding communities to village to visit Bluffton in December. Many events are planned. Here's the schedule of events, which also include Pandora activities:

Nightly now through Jan. 1:
o Ream holiday folk art display until 11 p.m., Presbyterian church law
o The Gift of Giving light show extravaganza, until 11 p.m., East College Avenue, across from Harmon Field Stadium

Blood drive Dec. 2 at First Mennonite

First Mennonite Church will host an American Red Cross blood drive from noon to 6 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 2, at the church.

Where are you from, what's your major at Bluffton and what year are you?

My hometown is Botkins. I graduated Anna High School in 2009 and am a junior at Bluffton University. I am majoring in communications with a minor in pre-law.

Who was the first person from Bluffton who you met?

The first person I met was Melissa Mesojec who was the Resident Advisor for Ramseyer Hall.

Give a gift that gives twice: Favorite fair trade gifts of Blufftonites

During this Christmas season we all want to be generous to the poor.

Fair trade is a wonderful way to do this while checking off your gift list for friends and family. Fair Trade is a strategy for poverty alleviation and sustainable development.

Its purpose is to create opportunities for producers who have been economically disadvantaged or marginalized by the conventional trading system. Fair trade includes sustainable, environmentally sound agricultural practices, and focuses specifically on fair labor practices and prices.

Look for some lane closures this week on Harmon Road

Bluffton Hospital contractors state that there may again be some lane closure on Harmon Road as they continue to make new utility connections in particular this will involve new water lines.

The mason is nearly finished with brick and stone work for this season.

The building has started to be enclosed with temporary materials that will allow a workable environment to be maintained inside the building and work to continue through the winter.

And the winners are... (Blaze floats and downtown window decorating contest)

Three floats were winners in the Blaze of Lights parade and three downtown businesses were winners in the downtown window decorating contest, sponsored by the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce.
