Framing of hospital addition nears completion

Several projects are on the construction schedule at Bluffton Hospital this week. Those projects follow:

  • Framing of the two-story addition is nearing completion.. Masonry work continues on the stairs and elevator near the new Emergency Department.
  • Masonry work has begun next to Harmon Road.. Air handlers have been set in place over the new Surgery area.
  • The new boilers have been installed and will be inspected by the state. Once they are certified by the state, they will be tested for two weeks and then the old boiler will be removed.

"Grandparents Day" today at Apollo Career Center

Over 100 Apollo Career Center students and 160 of their grandparents will be hanging out together, Wednesday, Oct. 13, from 1-3 p.m. at Apollo Career Center.

Grandparents are arriving at 1 p.m. for a tour and some student demonstrations including hand and arm massages by the cosmetology students.

Floral Design students have prepared arrangements for the Apollo guests and at 2:15 p.m. students and their grandparents will enjoy ice cream sundaes.

The season of orange things

'Tis the season of orange, brown and some red. Orange is the color of pumpkins, which come in all sizes. The little guys are for decorating, not eating. The Icon spotted them at Stratton's Greenhouse at the corner of Triplett Drive and East College.

Pastor Jim Mattek guest speaker at Trinity Lutheran

Pastor Jim Mattek, former pastor at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Findlay, will be the guest preacher at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 301 North Main Street, Jenera, on Sunday, Oct. 17.

He is the preacher at both the 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services. Pastor Mattek now serves with the Wisconsin Lutheran Child & Family Services and will also give a presentation in the 9:20 a.m. Bible Class about a new counseling service that has begun in this area.

BFR community Halloween party Oct. 24

BFR will hold a community Halloween party from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 24, at BFR, Snider Road.

The event includes crafts and games for youth from 2 to 3:30 p.m. A costume contest will be at 3:35 p.m. Costume contest divisions are:

  • Family/team
  • Youth 0-3
  • 4-6 year olds
  • 7-10 year olds
  • 11 year olds and older

The event is open to the public with no admission charge.
