Bluffton presents philanthropy award to Richard, Carolyn Cripe
Richard and Carolyn Cripe, Indiana residents with a long history of giving and service to Bluffton University, are the 2010 recipients of Bluffton's Ray Ramseyer Philanthropy Award.

The honor was announced Oct. 9 at the annual President's Society Dinner in Founders Hall.

Books with beat @ your library - recognizes Teen Read Week

Bluffton Public Library will celebrate Teen Read Week (Oct. 17-23) with special displays and programs aimed at encouraging area teens to read for the fun of it.

Thousands of libraries, schools and bookstores across the country will hold similar events centered on this year's theme, "Books with Beat @ your library," which encourages teens to read a variety of materials, including poetry, audiobooks, books about music and more.

BCE art auction tickets on sale

The second annual art auction and dinner to benefit the Bluffton Center for Entrepreneurs (BCE) will be held on Saturday, Oct. 23, at the Centre at Bluffton, 601 N. Main. Proceeds support the BCE mission of annually creating and retaining 30 local jobs. This is a major fundraiser for the BCE and raised $7000 in 2009. This Marc Chagall lithograph sold at 2009 auction.

Bluffton girls stop one Delphos squad, lose to another

Nearing the end of the season, the Bluffton Lady Pirates soccer team hosted the Delphos St. John's Blue Jays Monday evening. Both teams starting strong, battling for a solid 10 minutes back and forth, the Blue Jays put their first of many goals in.

Pressing sorghum

Sweet sorghum pressing took place Oct. 9 at Michael Amstutz's on Bixel Road. They pressed 150 gallons of juice with a horse-powered mill. From left are Silas Weihrauch, Samuel Weihrauch, Mike Amstutz and Tim King. (haflinger pony: Mandy).
