Bluffton High School Fiddlers opening act for April 1 town hall concert series

Banjo and guitar player and singer Matt Brown will perform in concert at 7 p.m., Friday, April 1, in the third floor of the Bluffton town hall in the Town Hall Concert Series, according to Wendy Chappell-Dick, of the village cultural affairs committee.

Opening for Brown are the Bluffton High School Fiddlers, an after- school club.

The performance is free and open to the public. Donations are accepted.

University civic engagement forum focus: global poverty

Dr. Jonathan Andreas, assistant professor of economics at Bluffton University, will present "A History of Global Poverty" at Bluffton's Civic Engagement Forum, at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 5, in Founders Hall.

Free and open to the public, the forum is part of the university's 2010-11 focus on the civic engagement theme of "Living with Enough: Responding to Global Poverty."

Andreas, who earned his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Illinois-Chicago, holds a bachelor's degree in American studies from Grinnell College in Iowa.

April 25 Maple Crest book discussion "On the Rez"

A discussion of Ian Frazier's book On the Rez will take place in the family room of Maple Crest Senior Living Village on Monday, April 25, at 2:30 p.m.

Copies of the book are available at Bluffton Public Library, 145 S. Main St., Bluffton. Maple Crest Senior Living Village is located at 700 Maple Crest Ct., Bluffton.

United Methodist holds cook'n for the cure bake sale-lunch April 16

A Cook'n for the Cure Easter bake sale and lunch is set for Saturday, April 16, in the fellowship hall of Bluffton First United Methodist Church, 116 Church St.

Organized by Bonnie Dudgeon, her daughter Becky and their Relay for Life team, proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.

The bake sale will be held from 9 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., the lunch will be held from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. The lunch menu consists of soups, sandwiches, relishes, dessert and beverages. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children 10 and under. All are welcome to attend.
