Apple chunk cake from the Maple Crest kitchen

This recipe is from the November 2010 Maple Crest newsletter.

RECIPE shared from the Maple Crest kitchen
Apple Chunk Cake

1 1/2 cups salad oil
2 cups sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
2 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp vanilla
1 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp soda
3 cups flour
3 cups apples, chopped

Combine salad oil, eggs, and vanilla.Add rest of ingredients.

Bake at 350 for 1 hour in 9 x13 pan. Sprinkle with powdered sugar while still warm, or can be baked with pecans on top.

Lions barbecue tickets on sale

The Bluffton Lions Club will hold its annual Harlan's chicken barbecue on Saturday, Nov. 27, the night of the Blaze of Lights. Serving is at the Bluffton elementary school from 4 to 7 p.m. Drive-up service is available. Tickets are $7 and are available in advance from any Lion.

Old Millstream handbell choir performs at St. John's UCC

The Old Millstream handbelll choir from Findlay will perform a Christmas program at St. John's United Church of Christ, 223 W. College Ave., Bluffton.

The concert is at 7 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 5. "Come hear this wonderful hand bell choir in concert and start your Christmas season off with a ring," said Rev. Carol Clements, pastor.

A free will offering will be accepted.

B-I-N-G-O at the public library

Come see Buzz and Woody at Bluffton Public Library! On Tuesday, Nov. 23, at 2:30 p.m., children ages 5 and up are invited to visit the library for Thanksgiving Bingo and a special screening of a children's movie.

Children are also welcome to bring a drink, snacks and something comfortable to sit on for this wild roundup, but please leave all steeds, spurs and meddling teddy bears at home.
