A Dick Cookson original

This quilt could be yours! The Bluffton Lions Foundation is raffling this original Dick Cookson quilt to benefit the Bluffton Hospital. The quilt design is "Tree of Life." The quilt measures 96 by 103 inches. The quilt winner will be announced at this year's Blaze of Lights on Nov. 27. Cookson, a member of the Bluffton Lions, spent 900 hours, including eight months of cross-stitching to complete the work. Raffle tickets are $5 each or three for $10. Dick Boehr, a member of the Lions, was selling raffle tickets and displaying the quilt during last weekend's fall festival.

Bluffton Middle School student senate named

Members of the 2010-11 Bluffton Middle School student senate were announced this week. Those students follow:

  • 6th Graders: Jadyn Barhorst, Connor Dawson, Ryan Sprague
  • 7th Graders: Mitchell Ault, Jack Burrell, Dylan Whitlow
  • 8th Graders: Josh Garmatter, Bryce Johnston, Braden Skilliter

October community meals on 7th and 21st

Two community meals are scheduled in November by the Bluffton Area Ministerial Association. Both meals are at 6 p.m. at the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center.

The meals are Thursday, Oct. 7, hosted by the Bluffton Presbyterian Church, and Thursday, Oct. 21, hosted by the Mennonite Memorial Home.

The meals are open to the public. Donations accepted are given to the Bluffton Community Assistance Program food pantry.

-Police responded to a non-injury traffic crash at the intersection of Jefferson St. and N. Main St. Leland Schrock, 24, Delphos, was cited for Assured Clear Distance and the case is pending in Bluffton Mayor's Court.

Chamber provides an "almost free lunch" Monday noon at Common Grounds

There are several benefits belonging to the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce. Getting an "almost free lunch," is one of them.

The chamber, in cooperation with Common Grounds, will hold its first "almost free lunch," at Common Grounds from noon to 1 p.m., Monday, Oct. 4.

According to Phil Zimmerly of Common Grounds, lunch for chamber members includes a chicken wrap and chips for $2. In addition, the chamber is picking up the tab for all chamber members drinks.

The lunch is also available to non-chamber members at $4.59 (drinks not included.)

September hotter and dryer than normal

September was warmer and drier than typical Bluffton Septembers, according to Guy Verhoff, Pandora weather observer.

During September 2010 we experienced 1.19 inches of precipitation (normal is 2.95 inches). The average September temperature was 66.6 degrees. The normal average September temperature is 63.7 degrees.

The September high reading was 93 degrees on Sept. 23. The low was 44 degrees on Sept. 9. The average high daily temperature was 78.2 degrees; the average daily low temperature was 54.9 degrees. The heaviest rainfall was 0.51 inches on Aug. 27.
