Outline of Bluffton's proposed American with Disabilities (ADA) Transition Plan

This week the Village of Bluffton Council will hold a second reading on a resolution to adopt an Americans with Disabilities Acts (ADA) Transition Plan for the Village. The 29-page document was prepared for Bluffton by the Lima/Allen County Regional Planning Commission.

The plan provides an outline of barrier removal priorities and a schedule for implementation. An opportunity for public comments and complaints are also provided.

Walter and Barbara (Wiley) Paxson to celebrate 60th anniversary

Walter and Barbara (Wiley) Paxson will be celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. They were married on August 23, 1964 at Zion Lutheran Church in Portland, Indiana.

The Paxson’s have five children: Marcus (Doris) Paxson, Maria (Leif) Kibele, Darla (Steve) Brumfield, Chris (Jess) Paxson and Gus (Sara) Paxson.

They are the proud grandparents of 17 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Walter retired from Elevator Services Incorporated in Beaverdam and Barbara retired from teaching at Bluffton Exempted Schools.

Pirate volleyball sweeps Aug. 24  tri match

BLUFFTON __ The Bluffton volleyball team swept a non-league triangular match Saturday, August 24, over two visiting opponents.

The Pirates swept Riverdale 25-18, 25-8 and defeated Miller City 25-21, 25-15. 

The wins improved the Pirate record to 4-1 this season.

Karlie Lora led Bluffton with six kills to pace the win over the Falcons.

Ayla Grandey, Kendall Stackhouse and Libby Hocanson each drilled five kills. Grandey also fired five aces, and Lora made one block.

Weekend Doctor: Vertebrogenic back pain

For many people, chronic low back pain originates from the space between the disc and the vertebra, which is known as the vertebral endplate. This type of pain is known as vertebrogenic pain. Of the 30 million people in the United States with chronic low back pain, one in six is likely to suffer from vertebrogenic pain.

A new "slow down for students" reminder is ready on Main St. Lights and signs with a new solar power panel have been installed near the intersection of College Ave. The installation is just in time for the K-12 school year to start on August 26.

Pirate football hammers Ben Logan

BELLEFONTAINE __ The visiting Bluffton football team kicked off its season with a 50-3 shellacking of non-league foe Ben Logan on August 23.

The Pirates out-gained the Raiders 469-53 in total net yardage. Bluffton rolled up 383 yards rushing and added 86 yards through the air.

Quarterback Tayte Giesige started the scoring with an 11-yard touchdown pass in the first period. He then ran in the two-point conversion to make it 8-0 after the opening stanza.
