Zen and the art of cleaning house

I'm supposed to be cleaning. But hey, what's-his-name said he was going to clean and then disappeared to the basement. Which means that he's not cleaning.

But I will. Really. I have this thing about cleaning on Friday nights. This started long ago when we were first married, living in the palatial duplex that overlooked the railroad tracks. That was one heck of an apartment and no amount of cleaning ever really produced anything other than what it was. An ugly apartment with a view of every train that passed through town.

AARP driver safety program March 23 at Sr. Center

AARP will offer a Driver Safety Program at the Bluffton Senior Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday, March 23, according to Tonya Meyer.

The program is the first and most recognized comprehensive nationwide course designed for older drivers. The course material is based on information gained through research to determine what is needed by this age group to update driver knowledge and skills.

It's official: spring is here - the Dari Freeze is open for business

Spring is quite literally a couple of days away and not only does that mean the return of warmer weather, but it also marks the return of some raved about treats from the Bluffton Dari Freeze, which opened its doors for the first time this season, 11th year overall, on Friday morning March 19.

Bill and Phyllis Marchal of Lafayette run the ice cream and food shop that offers some creative menu items like the reverse buckeye, which consists of peanut butter mixed with ice cream topped with fudge.

8 Superiors advance to state

8 Superiors advance to state

Eight Bluffton eighth graders received Superior scores at the district science fair March 13 at Ohio Northern University. The superiors advance to the state competition in Columbus. Five students receive an Excellent score. (Students are not standing in the order, which they are listed.)

Students receiving a Superior score and moving on to Columbus are: Landon Cluts, (perfect score of 40 and receive the United States Navy Award, which included a medal and a U.S. Savings Bond.

Southgate Lanes weekend event supports hospital

Southgate Lanes, Bluffton, is hosting a Bluffton Hospital Auxiliary "Colorama Bowling Fun Night" fundraiser on Friday and Saturday, March 19-20, according to John Dailey.

All proceeds go to the Bluffton Hospital expansion project.

The event offers countless door prizes plus several cash prizes ranging from $5, $10, $25, $30, $35, $40, $45 and several major prizes from area businesses.

Final Lenten service Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran

The final Lenten service will be held at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Jenera, on Wednesday, March 24, at 7 p.m. Pastor Al Schmitzer will preach on "He is Your King" finishing the series of sermons on "Jesus of Nazareth is Passing By." The choir will sing "Lord Jesus, May Thy Anguish." A light supper will be served from 5:30-6:45 p.m. by Trinity's Relay for Life Team. Everyone is welcome to the supper and the service. The church is handicapped accessible and more information is at trinitylutheran-jenera.org
