David Hooley, BHS student of the month

David Hooley, Bluffton High School senior, is the December BHS student of the month. He isa member of Math Club, Renaissance Committee, Show Choir and First Mennonite Church youth group. He participates in soccer and tennis at BHS.

Hooley has enrolled in several post-secondary classes at Bluffton University. He hopes to pursue mathematics at either Goshen College or Eastern Mennonite University.

He is the son of Don and Mary Ina Hooley, 330 S. Jackson St., Blufftyon.

Bluffton native Paul Soldner, artist and innovator in the field of ceramic art, 89, died at his winter home in Claremont, California, on Jan. 3, 2011.

He was a member of the Bluffton University class of 1946 and was an art major.

Henry P. Huber committee accepting applications for scholarships

The Henry P. Huber Scholarship committee is currently accepting applications for the 2011-2012 school year. Applications may be acquired from the Guidance Counselor at Bluffton High School, the Superintendent's office in the Bluffton Elementary School and from the Citizens National Bank in Bluffton.

Applicants are required to submit with their application, whether a high school senior or currently enrolled in college, the most recent transcript of their academic program. Applications must be filed with the committee by May 25, 2011.

Citizens National Bank Citizens expands service area to Defiance

Citizens National Bank has announceed the opening of a loan production office in Defiance. Located on the second floor at 607 W. Third St., the office began servicing customers in December.

It will provide commercial business development services to the area, including real estate loans, commercial lines of credit, agricultural lending and access to deposits through the bank's online for business and merchant capture services.

Winter programs begin soon at BFR

Youth Programs

The seven-week, winter session of youth programs begins the week of Jan. 10, according to Carole Enneking, BFR director.

Class options for elementary age youth include: basketball (Thursday 3:30 PM), Football (Tuesday 3:30PM), Dodgeball (Fridays 3:30 PM), Soccer (Mondays for U10 players and Thursdays for U7 players), and Volleyball Skills (Wednesday 3:30 PM).

Next community meal is Thursday at Senior Center

Twice-a-month community meals continue in 2011 thanks to the Bluffton Area Ministerial Association.

The next community meal is Thursday, Jan. 6. The meal is from 6 to 6:45 p.m. and has no charge. It is held at the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center. Persons may, however, provide donations to assist the Bluffton Community Assistance Program food pantry.
