Bluffton's oldest tradition welcomes in the new year; Swiss Historical Society invites you to join singing NY songs

New Year's Eve this year will once again find the residents of Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton enjoying the long-standing tradition of New Year's serenading, beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 31.

New Year's Eve caroling: a cultural gem deep in our community's bedrock

To best understand our community, it's helpful to appreciate the musical gene of those who carry a Bluffton birthmark.

Growing up in a household bursting of Swiss traditions, this truth became obvious early on in the shaping of my own attitude toward events swirling around me.

A case in point is the David Rothen New Year's caroling folklore. My parents' reference to this event centered on their teen years in the late 1920s.

Riverdale stops Bluffton girls

Ohio Wesleyan trips Bluffton in Hoops for Hope Tournament

The Bluffton University women's basketball team was defeated 83-62 by Ohio Wesleyan University on Wednesday, December 29 in the opening round of the Hoops for Hope Tournament. Bluffton's record slipped to 4-6 overall, while Ohio Wesleyan improved to 5-6 for the 2010-11 season.

Beavers move into McDonald's title game with 100-64 win

The Bluffton University men's basketball team dominated Wright St.-Lake during a 100-64 victory in the McDonald's of Bluffton Holiday tournament semi-finals on Wednesday, December 29, 2010. The Beavers hit the century mark for the second consecutive game while improving to 7-3 on the season. The consecutive 100-point outbursts marks only the second time in school history that Bluffton has accomplished the feat with the other a three-game spurt in 1971-72.

Resurfacing Pandora's basketball-tennis courts on council's agenda

In its final meeting of 2010, Stan Schneck, Pandora village administrator presented a cost estimate of $113,502.50 from Poggemeyer Design Group as to re-surfacing the Pandora basketball/tennis courts.
