Pandora pastor gets closer look at Bluffton

A three-day visit to Bluffton University was a learning experience for the Rev. Lynn Thompson.

Thompson, co-pastor of St. John Mennonite Church in Pandora, was on campus Sept. 14-16 as part of Bluffton's Minister in Residence program. The Pittsburg, Texas, native spoke to multiple classes during his three-day stay and urged his listeners in the weekly chapel service to "Watch the Source," a message based upon Proverbs 4:20-27.

Bluffton homecoming: awards and art to food, football, Frisbees

Bluffton University will celebrate Homecoming Oct. 8-10 with an array of activities, beginning with a parade down Main Street at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8.

'Messiah' rehearsals set at Bluffton University

Rehearsals for Bluffton University's 115th performance of Handel's "Messiah" will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesdays, beginning Oct. 12, in the Gilliom Room of Mosiman Hall. Anyone interested in singing, from high school students to adults, is welcome to join the rehearsals, which will lead to the traditional Advent-season performance at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12.

Dr. Mark J. Suderman, professor of music, is the conductor, while Dr. Lucia Unrau, professor and chair of the Bluffton music department, is the rehearsal accompanist. Music scores will be available for singers to borrow.

Celebration

Katherine Gratz, 19-month-old daughter of Joanna and Dan Gratz enjoys playing with a balloon during The Bluffton Icon's first anniversary celebration on Sept. 22 at Common Grounds.

Presbyterian Jazz Trio performs Oct. 3

Bluffton Presbyterian Church's Jazz Trio will play at the 10:15 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Oct. 3. Members of the trio include Tanya Best, percussion, Dave Sycks, trumpet, and Jayne McGarrity, piano. The selections they will be performing are "Amazing Grace," "Wonderful Words of Life" and "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot." CLICK ON PHOTO TO ENLARGE.
