Future tennis pro at work

Kenny Lovett runs while trying to keep his tennis ball on his racket. Kenny is among many area first through sixth graders participating in Bluffton's Midwest Youth Team Tennis weeklong program at Howe Tennis Courts. The event is sponsored by the non-profit Bluffton Area Tennis Association. Several members of BHS's varsity tennis teams are helping out as coaches. They include Jess Hunter, Emily Sprague, Ashlin Gable, Kristi Geiser and Matt Deter. Jon Sprague is president of the Bluffton Area Tennis Association.

Community garage sale supports public library

The Friends of the Bluffton Public Library are hosting the second annual Community Garage Sale on Aug. 5, 6 and 7. Maps, a list of addresses with descriptions, media coverage and classified advertising will be coordinated by the Friends of the Library. To appear on the map and list, participants must register by July 17.

Bluffton council eliminates assistant village administrator post

Bluffton council approved a reduction in the village work force during its June 14 meeting. A statement from Jamie Mehaffie explains council's action.

Mehaffie: "After careful examination of personnel needs and the budget, the Bluffton village council has made the difficult decision to eliminate the position of Assistant Village Administrator [Nancy Benroth].

University radio station broadcasts weekend events

Bluffton University radio station WBNH 99.3 FM will be following Hometown Amerifest starting with the parade at noon on Saturday, June 26. The opening ceremony will be on the air.

The station will have car show updates, the luminary ceremony and music during the fireworks. Someone from the station interviewing participants throughout the day.

"We thank Bluffton University and the students who work at the radio station for their commitment in taking on this endeavor,"said Tracy Steele of Relay for Life.
