Letter: Vaccination reminder

As the days get shorter and cooler, community members should be aware that multiple infectious diseases will be more prevalent, including COVID-19, influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). If you are someone who always gets vaccinated, here’s a reminder that this is the time of year to do so. And, if you aren’t, now could be a great time to start.

Bluffton EMS in September 2023 by the numbers

Bluffton EMS Chief Jan Basinger has reported the following calls for service statistics for September 2023: 78  Total Calls For Service / 47 Medical / 12 Hospital to Hospital Transports / 8 Fire Calls / 6 Mutual Aid Calls / 5 Special Events / 56 patients transported. So far in 2023, there have been a total of 584 Total calls for service.

 

Dorothy (Beck) Couch was a teacher

Dorothy (Beck) Couch, 96, of Bluffton and formerly of Sandusky, OH, passed away peacefully early Wednesday evening, September 27, 2023, in the Bridge Hospice unit at Blanchard Valley Health Center, in Findlay, OH.

She was born on March 29, 1927, in Ravenna, OH the daughter of Hugh George and Georgia Mae (Werner) Beck. She graduated from Kent State University with a Bachelor's degree in Education. Dorothy was a teacher in the Sandusky Public School System for nearly 35 years, retiring in 1985. Prior to Sandusky city, she had taught in Portage, Summit, Marion and Sandusky Counties.

Human trafficking "Signs to Look For" program on October 10

The League of Women Voters of the Lima Area will hold an informational meeting on human trafficking “Signs to Look For” on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. at Shawnee United Methodist Church, 2600 Zurmehly Road.

The guest speaker will be Brittany Reyes from Crime Victim Services. This meeting is open to the public.

Pirate boys soccer beats Lancers, clinch 9th straight NWC crown

The Bluffton High School boys soccer team beat Lincolnview 3-1 in a Northwest Conference championship showdown match Monday night, October 2, at Steinmetz Field.

Bluffton improved to 4-0 in league play and won the title with their 42nd straight conference triumph without a loss. The Pirates are 5-7-2 overall after the win.

Pirate volleyball sweeps Patriots

The Bluffton High School volleyball team swept Patrick Henry in a non-conference road match Monday evening, October 2.

The Pirates won 25-18, 25-23, 25-16 to improve to 14-4 overall and snap a two-match losing skid.
