Pirate boys soccer edged late by Ottawa Hills

BLUFFTON – The Bluffton High School boys soccer team lost 2-1 to visiting perennial power Ottawa Hills at Steinmetz Field Thursday night, October 3.

The loss snapped a six-match Pirate win streak. OH scored twice in the final 20 minutes to rally for the win.

The Pirate record dropped to 8-7 overall after the tough loss. Ottawa Hills improved to 10-3-1 with the win.

The defensive battle was scoreless at halftime.

Speicher competes at golf districts

MAUMEE BAY – Bluffton senior Evan Speicher competed at the 57-player Div. II northwest district golf tournament Thursday at the Maumee Bay State Park course.

Speicher finished in a five-way tie for 26th place with an 18-hole score of 46-42=88.

Only the top two teams and the top two individual finishers from non-qualifying teams advanced to the state tournament next week.

Upper Sandusky senior Brock Montgomery won the district individual title with a round of 35-38=73.

Lavern H. Hermiller was a dairy farmer

Lavern H. Hermiller, 94, passed away October 2, 2024 at Mercy Health - St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima. Lavern was born October 22, 1929 in Glandorf to the late John and Mary (Rosenbauer) Hermiller.  He was married to Dolores (Halker) Hermiller who preceded him in death and he later married Marjorie (Greulich) Trenkamp Hermiller who also preceded him in death.
