Five certified school staff receive pay increases

Five certified staff received salary increases as a result of action taken by the Bluffton school board on Sept. 27.

The increases follow: Nicole Anderson (BA to 150 hours); Andy Armstrong (BA+15 to MA), Annie Gill (150 Hrs to MA), Tami Hardy (MA to MA+15) and Kathy Moser (150 Hrs to MA),

New classified contracts were issues to the following:
George Stechschulte, bus driver $14.26 per hour, 4 hours per day; Kathy Bishop, educational aide, $12.06 per hour, 7 hours per day; Daryl Shields, custodian, $13.91 per hour, 8 hours per day.

Spice of Life featured tea on Sept. 30

The Inn at Ohio Northern University offers Thursday Tea at the Inn every Thursday afternoon from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Inn. The garden courtyard is open for seating (weather permitting).

The next tea is Sept. 30. Featured tea is Spice of Life paired with Pumpkin Nut Bread in addition to a selection of Chef's Tea Sandwiches, Scones, Pastries, Tarts and Petite Fours. Champagne is also available.

Introducing Kaden Michael Niekamp born Sept. 15

Ryan and Kristen Niekamp, Bluffton, announce the birth of a son, Kaden Michael Niekamp, at 9:26 p.m. on Sept. 15, 2010, at Bluffton Hospital. He weighed 9 pounds, 11 ounces and was 20-1/2 inches long.

Grandparents are Kim McCullough, Bluffton, Randy McCullough, Fremont, and Rick and Janice Niekamp, Coldwater. Great-grandparents are Stan and Ruth Naylor, Bluffton, and Audrey Niekamp, Chickasaw.

Let's make this one a butterfly

I'd like a butterfly painted on my face. How many times on Saturday did Bev Amstutz hear that request? Bev painted faces of youngsters during the Swiss Community Historical Society's fall festival celebration. The warm weather brought several hundred visitors to the homestead.

Community swimming pool in sea of red ink

The Bluffton Community Swimming Pool was $28,066 in the red as of the end of September, according to information provided in this week's Bluffton council packet.

That figure was actually an improvement from the previous year. The attachment to this article reveals swimming pool revenue and expenses each year since 2004.
