First Mennonite Women organize for 2010-11

First Mennonite Women's 20-10-11 programming is underway. In September the organization met on Sept. 13. Seven additional meetings following during 2010-11.

Oct. 11 - 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., project day in Fellowship Hall. Business and a lunch are at noon. Hostesses are Wanda Pannabecker and Irene Hamman. For World Food Day, members are asked to bring items for the Bluffton Community Assistance Program food pantry.

Quilt created in 1930

This Lone Star quilt was created by Melvena Hilty in 1930. It was one of dozens of quilts on display at Maple Crest during Saturday's fall festival. The full-size quilt, now owned by Jo Ann Hilty, was hand-pieced and hand-quilted.

Herron 6th at Van Wert County Hospital Invitational

The Bluffton High School cross country team competed Saturday at the Van Wert County Hospital Invitational, the site of their upcoming conference meet.

The girls placed 7th of 13 teams and the boys placed 13th of 16. Competition was tight, and Bluffton ran in the faster of the two divisions.

Bluffton's CROP Walk Sunday, Oct. 3

Bluffton's CROP Walk is at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 3. The annual event raises funds to support world hunger. This year's walk starts and ends at the Bluffton Senior Citizen Center, 132 N. Main St.

Elementary picture day Oct. 14

Bluffton Elementary picture day is Thursday, Oct. 14. Students must have their picture envelope with money in hand prior to their picture being taken, according to Tim Closson, elementary principal.

All students will have their picture taken this day for student records. Picture information will be sent home with each child. Picture re-take day is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 19.

Bluffton boys and girls CC first at Bath

BHS boys' cross country team

The Bluffton HS cross country team travelled to a quad-meet at Bath last Thursday. The host team, Bluffton, Kalida, and Lima Senior all competed. The boys and girls ran together, as there were only 59 runners present.

Bluffton dominated the field, as both teams ran their way to a win. A pair of Bluffton runners led the way for the Pirates, each grabbing first place: Matthew Herron for the boys and Hannah Chappell-Dick for the girls.
