Cara Young Davies named outstanding young alum at Heidelberg

Two outstanding young alumni, Cara Young Davies of Bluffton, along with Anietra Hamper were honored for their career excellence Nov. 9 at Heidelberg University, Tiffin.

In turn, both expressed their appreciation for their Heidelberg experience and for professors who positively influenced each of their lives.

Davies, a 1996 graduate, and Hamper, class of '95, are the 2009 recipients of Heidelberg's Young Alumni Achievement Awards.

Village plans to renew dispatch contract with county

Bluffton council on Nov. 9 took the first steps to renew its dispatch communication contract with Allen County.

Council okayed the first reading of legislation to issue a contract for the work to the sheriff's office. If approved, the contract will be in effect from Jan. 1, 2010, to June 30, 2013. The cost to the village will be $31,878 per year.

In other council action, Jamie Mehaffie, village administrator, reported that Miller Cable Co. is completing the installation of the streetlights on Main Street.

My mother was Mary Margaret Basinger, daughter of Dr. Evan Basinger and Marjorie Day Basinger. I'm directly descended from two founders of Bluffton: Michael Neunenschwander and Joseph DeFord.
