HCAC 2023 women's soccer poll, players to watch

CARMEL, Ind.–In a vote amongst league coaches, the Hanover College women's soccer team was picked to finish first in the 2023 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) season. The Panthers finished the 2022 regular season in first place, with a 7-0-2 mark in league play.  

Rose-Hulman, who won the HCAC Women's Soccer Title, was voted to finish second and picked up two first-place votes. Transylvania University snagged the third-place spot, narrowly beating out Anderson University and Mount St. Joseph University who finished just two-points behind in a tie for fourth place. 

Bluffton University ranked sixth in the poll.

Forages for Horses virtual course offered by OSU Extension

Beginning August 30, 2023, Ohio State University Extension will be offering Forages for Horses, a virtual course for equine managers. The course will utilize a combination of live webinars on Zoom with equine and forage experts, along with an in-depth online course accessed through the platform Scarlet Canvas. The Forages for Horses program is a collaboration between Ohio State University Extension, USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service, Ohio Department of Agriculture, and the Ohio Forage and Grasslands Council.

Pirate boys soccer shut out by Archbold

Pirates host Tree of Life at 6:00 p.m. on August 19

Visiting Archbold defeated the Bluffton boys soccer team 2-0 in the Pirate season opener Tuesday evening, August 15, at Steinmetz Field.

The Archers improved to 2-0 with the win, while Bluffton dropped to 0-1 after the loss.

Pirate girls tennis beats Defiance

Bluffton plays Bath on Tuesday, August 22.

The Bluffton High School girls tennis team defeated Defiance 3-1 Tuesday evening, August 15, in a contest shortened by inclement weather.

The Pirates improved to 2-2 with the win. The match was stopped by rain before the second doubles match could be completed.

Bluffton won all three singles matches in straight sets to secure the team victory.
