Area talents performs Nov. 7 at fundraising cabaret

All are welcome to attend the third annual Cabaret at Bluffton First United Methodist Church on Sunday, Nov. 7, at 3 p.m. in the church sanctuary.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Bluffton Food Pantry and the Bluffton First UMC Scholarship Fund.

Bluffton musicians to present junior recitals

James Brake, a percussionist from Ohio City, Ohio, and Timothy Yoder, a pianist from Dalton, Ohio, will perform their Bluffton University junior recitals jointly at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, in Yoder Recital Hall on the Bluffton campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Nov. 13 concert to introduce Bluffton University Gospel Choir

The newly formed Bluffton University Gospel Choir will host "A Celebration of Gospel," a concert featuring the choir and other groups from Bluffton and Columbus, at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, in Yoder Recital Hall. Doors will open at 3:45 p.m. for the free concert.

The 45-member Bluffton choir was organized this fall by Dr. Crystal Sellers, an assistant professor of music at the university. About half of its members are Bluffton students; the others are faculty and community members.

Bluffton senior to perform vocal recital

Laurel Baker, a vocalist from Pemberville, Ohio, will present her Bluffton University senior recital at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21, in Yoder Recital Hall on the Bluffton campus. The recital is free and open to the public; a reception will follow in the lobby.

Nationally known sculptor exhibiting work at Bluffton

John Mishler, a nationally known sculptor from Goshen, Ind., will open an exhibition featuring his metal sculptures on Monday, Nov. 8, in the Grace Albrecht Gallery of Bluffton University's Sauder Visual Arts Center.

Mishler is known for his sculptures using common metals, including aluminum, copper, steel and stainless steel, to create both abstract and symbolic pieces of art. Many of his outdoor pieces incorporate kinetic energy and have moving parts. His works have appeared in public and corporate collections across America and in private collections internationally.

Herron qualifies for state, finishes 7th at regionals

Bluffton's cross country star, Matthew Herron, didn't disappoint on Saturday, coming close once again to his PR. He punched his ticket to Columbus by placing 7th in 16:24.10. He will be competing at Scioto Downs at 11:05 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6.

Herron was beat to the line by district rivals K.J. Abair and Colin Fisher, both from Delta. Fisher won the race in 15:48.47. Herron outran NWC opponent, Jake Graham, from Columbus Grove, who placed 12th in 16:38.60. State Qualifying times ranged from 16:24.10 to 16:46.64.
