Waiting for a heat wave

Perhaps we ought to take the February thermometer to Kirtland's. Could they place a new timing belt on it so it will rise? Since Monday, Feb. 15, the area temperatures have registered a low of -1 and a high of only 38, and only for a fleeting moment on Sunday, Feb. 21.

During this same period snowfall was recorded at slightly over 5 inches. Here's the daily high and low from Feb. 15, as recorded by Guy Verhoff, Pandora weather observer.

WALL SHIFTED INWARD

This photo demonstrates how the outside wall of the Groves Bear store building has shifted since last week. When the wooden braces were installed last week the wood at the top touched the wall. Since that time, the wall has shifted slightly inward.

March 13 prom dress sale at BHS

The Bluffton High School junior class will hold a prom dress sale from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, March 13, in the BHS cafeteria.

Persons may bring their prom dresses and homecoming dresses to sell at the event. Those dresses must be brought to the high school between 3:30 and 6 p.m. on Friday, March 12.

This is a cash only sale. No checks will be accepted. The event benefits the junior class post prom committee.

"We are in limbo," says Robin Wilch of Groves Bear store

"We are in limbo," explains Robin Wilch of Groves' Bear store.

The North Main Street business owner says that in order to go forward three parties need to agree on something: a structural engineer, her insurance adjustor and a representative of the state, who approves building code occupancy.

Until that happens the business remains closed to customers.

"Nobody wants to take the responsibility in writing (to allow her to reopen her shop)," she says,

BFR launches early spring schedule March 1

Registration is now open for early spring programs at BFR (Bluffton Family
Recreation), according to Carole Enneking, director. Due to the wintery weather in February, some youth classeswill delay their start dates and last only 6 weeks instead of 7.

Let's have chili rellenos at the party!

Nancy Yeager shares this recipe which she obtained from Mary and Mike Edmiston. She says that it's a great party favorite.

Chili Rellenos

1 lb. cheddar cheese, grated
1 lb. Monterey Jack, grated
12 oz. evaporated milk
4 eggs
chopped green chili (2 cans works well)
8 oz. tomato sauce (optional)

Grease a 9x13 pan. Layer half of the chili (1 can) on the bottom. Next layer all the cheddar cheese, then the remaining chili ( or can), and the jack cheese. Beat the egg whites and yolks separately.
