On the morning of Ash Wednesday, Feb. 26, a group of Bluffton area pastors will offer “Ashes to Go,” a new approach to a centuries-old Christian tradition.
Ashes to Go is offered from 7 to 9 a.m. downtown Bluffton at the corner of Main and Cherry streets.
Pedestrians, as well as drivers and passengers of vehicles who pull over, are invited to participate.
Another successful community chili cook off was held on Feb. 18
With the help of eight area churches and 10 chili cooks, the event raised $1,380 for the Bluffton Community Assistance Program’s food pantry.
Chili recipes were provided by Cathy Carroll, representing the Presbyterian church; John Hochstetler Presbyterian church; Missy Pilash, Bluffton Baptist; Jesse Owsley, Emmanuel UCC; Mike Edmiston, First Mennonite; Tom Downey, St. Mary’s Catholic; Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio, Julie Yoder, Zac Kohli and J.W. Shannon, Bluffton Community Assistance Program.
This year's community Vacation Bible School moves to June. First Mennonite Church is the host congregation and the VBS dates are Sunday to Thursday, June 7-11.
This year's theme is "Who Is My Neighbor." Co-organizers from First Mennonite are Amber Shelly and Carrie Mast.
The Pandora United Methodist Church will be hosting a free community meal on Wednesday, Feb. 26 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. The church is located at 108 E. Washington Street, Pandora.
The meal is provided by Hilty Memorial Home. The menu is fried chicken, buttered parsley potatoes, California blend vegetables, cupcakes and beverages.
County Line Church is hosting a "Leap into Spring" garage sale in their barn, at 4227 N Hardin Rd. (County Line Rd.), on Saturday, Feb. 29, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Local vendors will be selling second-hand items, including vintage, antiques, household items, clothes, etc, plus handmade crafts, homemade foods and products from home-based businesses in the church’s multi-purpose building.
Riley Creek United Methodist Church invites the all ages to a "Soup, Sandwich & Game Night" on Thursday, Feb. 20, at 6 p.m. From 6 to 7 p.m. there will be several soup flavors to choose from and a hearty sandwich to fill in the gaps. Family-friendly games will be played until 9 p.m. Bring a favorite board game to play or join in a round or two of the many that will be on hand.
The evening's events will take place in the church's newly completed building addition. The addition includes restrooms, a kitchenette and a fellowship hall.
