Deb Wentz of The Curling Iron gives Bluffton University baseball player Ethan Wooolridge a buzz. Last week baseball players participated in their third annual buzz-a-thon to support cancer research.

 

 

While attending the International Franchise Association (IFA) convention Feb. 21-25 in New Orleans, the management team from Shirley’s Gourmet Popcorn Co., joined more than 100 franchising executives from across the country to participate in the annual Franchising Gives Back day of service.

The team of Pete &and Kim Suter, Jennifer Althaus and Dan Stanowick volunteered alongside leading franchisors and suppliers to construct benches, picnic tables, and planters at Einstein Charter School, a leading K-8 school in the city’s Ninth Ward.

A national search is underway for the next head football coach at Bluffton University. Tyson Veidt, the head coach since 2008, has accepted the position of linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Toledo.

“Coach Veidt built a strong foundation for our football program and has made a difference in the lives of many of our student-athletes,” said Phill Talavinia, athletics director. “We wish him all the best on his move to a Division I program.”

Bluffton High School's Levi Kistler, junior, was named honorable mention all-Northwest Conference in boys' basketball. The Pirates ended 9-13 overall and 2-6 in the NWC.

Crestview's Damian Helm was named NWC player of the year. For the complete list of all-conference players open the attachment at the bottom of this story.

Kathryn Fruchey, 92, of Pandora died March 3, 2014 at Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora.  Arrangements are incomplete at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton.
