Approximately 675 sophomores in Apollo Career Center¹s 11-member district, including Bluffton HS sophomores, will visit Apollo during 411Blast, Friday, Jan. 31. Parents of sophomore students interested in attending Apollo for the 2014-15 school year are also invited to attend.
Bluffton students will attend sessions held at 9 to 9:58 a.m. and 10:02 to 11 a.m. Lunch will be served from 11:05 to 11:35 a.m.
The Bluffton Fire Department will take down Main Street storefront holiday lights on Wednesday evening, weather permitting, according to Jon Kinn, fire chief.
The poles and other work requiring the high lift (Citizens National Bank) will be scheduled later.
Lauren Hector, daughter of D. Keith and Rhonda Hector, 111 Tr 20, Mount Cory, has been named to the Ohio Northern University deans’ list for the fall semester 2013. She is a senior majoring in graphic design.
Andrea Hines, daughter of Lisa Hines, 106 Richland Dr, Bluffton, and James Hines, 9470 Dixie Hwy, Bluffton, has been named to the Ohio Northern University deans’ list for the fall semester 2013. She is a pharmacy - sixth year majoring in pharmacy.
The Bluffton Senior Citizens Center will host a trip to Scotland this summer, according to Tonya Meyer, director.
The trip is planned during July and the theme is Treasures of Scotland.
"The tour has been organized through Country Travel Discoveries. The 10-day trip will visit cities and towns as well as the Highlands and lochs and an island," said Meyer.
Two Hesston (Kan.) College faculty members will address “Common Threads: Anabaptist and African-American Songs and Stories of Suffering and Hope” in a Bluffton University forum to be presented both Monday evening (Jan. 13) and Tuesday morning (Jan. 14) in Yoder Recital Hall.
Speaking, and singing, at 7 p.m. Monday and 11 a.m. Tuesday are Tony Brown, a faculty member in sociology and history as well as artist in residence at Hesston, and John Sharp, who teaches history and Bible and ministry at the college.
Bluffton University’s Institute for Learning in Retirement (ILR), an educational program for retirees, is offering three classes led by local residents on Wednesdays, Feb. 5-March 5, in the Kreider Room in Marbeck Center.
The winter term costs $60, which allows participants to take as many classes as they wish. The fee is due at the time of registration.
