Former Bluffton High School principal Walter Leonard “Bud” Marshall, 78, of Three Rivers, Michigan, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
He was born in Lima to James Walter and Thelma Brown Marshall. Walter was a 1952 graduate of Shawnee High School and a 1957 graduate of Ohio Northern University. He earned a Masters degree of Education from Indiana University. He was a member of Sigma Phi fraternity.
Bluffton University will host two annual campus events—the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Forum and the Keeney Peace Lecture—on Tuesday, Jan. 22. Both are free and open to the public.
Dr. Dafina-Lazarus Stewart, an associate professor of higher education and student affairs at Bowling Green State University, will revisit King’s legacy in her forum presentation at 11 a.m. in Founders Hall.
The Bluffton University men’s basketball team fell just short in a 67-64 overtime loss to nationally-ranked Rose Hulman on Saturday, Jan. 19.
The setback dropped Bluffton to 7-10 on the season and 3-7 in the Heartland Conference. Rose improved to 15-2 overall and a league-best 9-1 in HCAC. It was an intense back-and-forth battle that came down to the final second of the contest.
The Cotton Patch Gospel, a one-man musical by Phillip Kaufmann, will be presented at 3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 20, at First Mennonite Church. The Martin Luther King Jr. Day event is sponsored by the Bluffton Area Ministerial Association.
