“Snow shoveling is one of those things that no one likes to do, but most of us have to do – living here in Northwest Ohio”, states Wanda Dean, MSPT and owner of Northwest Physical Therapy. “What often accompanies this chore is the aching back and the heating pad, making the rest of your day miserable.”  Dean goes on to state, “There are some things we can all do to prevent injury and make snow shoveling a chore that doesn’t have to cause pain.”

Here are some tips to keep you healthy and pain-free this winter while shoveling snow:

Bluffton Hospital and some very happy parents provided the Icon with a list of babies born in the last few weeks.  They are:

Dec. 10 - Harper June Maple, daughter of Jason and Marcy Maple, 21 inches long, 8 pounds and 3 ounces.

Dec. 11 - Amethyst Lynn Thompson, daughter of Amanda Patterson and Donald Thompson, 21 inches long, 10 pounds and 6 ounces.

Dec. 11 - Jase W. Blackburn, son of Jake and Kelli Blackburn, 18 inches long, 6 pounds and 8 ounces.

Shirley's Gourmet Popcorn flavor of the month is "Cinnamon Bun." As Pete Suter puts it: "Our rich caramel is great by itself... but in January we coat it with smooth white chocolate and sprinkle it with a touch of cinnamon to create an incredible flavor."

"This is the perfect flavor to warm you up on a cold January day... Shirley's Cinnamon Bun popcorn tastes just like grandma's cinnamon rolls - right out of the oven," he said.

The Bluffton University women’s basketball team suffered an 84-69 loss at Hanover College on Saturday, Jan. 5. The  Beavers dipped to 1-5 in Heartland Conference and 6-7 overall. Hanover improved to 4-2 in the HCAC and 10-3 overall.

Hanover opened the game with a 6-0 run before two-sport standout Brooke Ruffer (Stryker) got the Beavers on the scoreboard when she drained a triple. Bluffton called a timeout at the 9:37 mark after seeing the Hanover lead grow to 20-10.

The Bluffton University men’s basketball team suffered an 82-54 loss at Hanover College on January 5, 2013. The Beavers stayed winless at 0-6 in the Heartland Conference (4-9 overall). Hanover improved to 4-2 in HCAC play and 7-6 on the season.

Friday, Jan. 11, Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce breakfast.

Breakfast serving will begin at 7 a.m. and the meeting will begin at 7:30 a.m. in the third
