Charles J. Neal, 76 of Bluffton, Ohio died Dec. 17, 2012 at 12:30 PM at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.

He was born November 11, 1938 in Dewitt, Illinois to John F. and Elsie M. (Sherman) Neal.  On November 22, 1958 he married Freada Meadows and she survives.

He had been a gravedigger in Pythian Ridge Cemetery, Sturgis, Kentucky working with Whitsell Funeral Home.  He had also been a heavy equipment operator.  He attended Lima Community Church where he volunteered his time in grounds keeping.

What year did you graduate BHS?  What's a favorite memory of your BHS days?

I graduated in 1997.  If I had to pick just one memory, I'd have to pick two: First off, making the football playoffs and winning a share of the Northwest Conference my senior year was really great. It was a special group of guys on the team. As well as the first time since 1991 that Bluffton won the NWC in football. Losing to Versailles probably knocks that memory to #2 from my BHS days.

Maple Crest residents and Bluffton community members joined together in a volunteer effort to help women who may be caught up in human trafficking.

The SOAP (Save Our Adolescent Prostitutes) volunteer opportunity came out of Crime Victim Services, Lima, through a donation by a resident and her friend, and involved placing red stickers on bars of soap.

Each sticker had a short series of questions on it concerning being forced to do something or seeing someone potentially in trouble, along with a national hotline number to call for assistance.
