The Detroit Red Wings began their playoff journey Wednesday night in Nashville against the Predators. The result was not a favorable one for Wings fans as they went down by a game in the series with a 3-2 loss.

Paul Gaustad opened up the scoring in the first period in an extremely lucky fashion. The Predators forward collected the puck behind the net, skated into the corner and simply shot it in front of the net.

A movie documentary Sex+Money: A National Search for Human Worth is playing at the Shannon Theater Saturday morning April 21st at 10 a.m. Admission is free but donations will be accepted at the door for NW Ohio Human Trafficking Rescue and Restore Coalition. A short talk back will follow the movie showing. This movie is recommended for late teens or adults.

$15,000 DTR-Toyota donation to schools

DTR Industries and Toyota donated $15,000 to the Bluffton schools on April 11. Along with children whose family members are DTR associates, stand Congressman Jim Jordan; Bob Young, vice president, purchasing, Toyota; William Yokas, senior vice president, manufacturing, DTR; Greg Denecker, Bluffton schools superintendent; and Eric Fulcomer, Bluffton mayor. The Icon became a family today. Fred and Mary Pannabecker Steiner, owners of The Bluffton Icon, announce the launching of The Ada Icon (www.adaicon.com). The Ada site is completely separate from Bluffton; however, it offers the Ada community many of the features of The Bluffton Icon.

Like Bluffton, The Ada Icon is a free, online news source, which covers the community of Ada with daily news, information and opportunities for businesses to advertise their products.

April 11 was a great day for Bluffton Exempted Village Schools. DTR Industries and Toyota donated $15,000 to the school district. The money will be used for technology upgrades in classrooms.

The presentation took place at DTR following a plant tour for students in the Bluffton schools whose family members are DTR associates. In addition, Rep. Jim Jordan and members of his staff, along with village and school officials also toured DTR.

Bridge Home Health & Hospice will offer training courses for prospective volunteers in Bluffton beginning on Wednesday, May 2.

The training will be held at the town hall, located at 154 N. Main St., Bluffton, and will take place for seven consecutive Wednesdays from 1 to 4 p.m.

Courses will cover the basic principles of hospice, understanding the needs of patients and their families, effective communication, patient care, pain and symptom management, spiritual care giving and understanding grief and loss.
