George Metz elected to national NCAA office
Dr. George Metz, education department chair and faculty athletics representative at Bluffton University, has been elected vice president of NCAA Division III faculty athletics representatives.
The professor of education, who also chairs Bluffton's Division of Education and Sport Science, was voted into the national office at the NCAA Faculty Athletics Representatives Association (FARA) Symposium, held Nov. 9-12 in San Diego.
Metz has been a member of the organization's executive committee since 2009 and, as Division III vice president, will remain a member through November 2012. His primary responsibilities in his new role will include representing Division III at FARA events and planning the division's agenda for next November's symposium in Indianapolis.
Comprised of more than 475 colleges and universities, Division III has the largest divisional membership in the NCAA. The FARA represents nearly 1,200 institutions across all three NCAA divisions.
Faculty athletics representatives are faculty members who serve as liaisons between institutions and their athletic departments, and as official representatives of their institutions in NCAA affairs.
