Senior Center offers tax help and free flu shots

Flu shots and tax assistance will be available in February at the Bluffton Senior Citizen Center, 132 N. Main St., according to Tonya Meyer, director.

Tax aid

AARP tax-aide help will be available starting at 9 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 4, according to Tonya Meyer, director.

"Volunteers specialize in helping taxpayers with low and moderate income, with special attention to those age 60 and older," she said. "Appointments are required and may be made by calling 419-358-8971."

She said that persons needing assistance should bring the follow items to their appointment:

  • current year's tax forms
  • preparation booklets
  • copy of last year's income tax returns
  • W-2 forms from each employer
  • unemployment conpensation statement
  • SSA-1099 forms
  • all forms indicating federal income tax paid
  • Social Security card
  • any other official documentation for yourself and your dependents

Everyone must present a current photo ID at the time of the appointment. The volunteers are not trained to do Schedule C, Schedule D, or Schedule E (rental property, royalties, partnerships and trusts that involve depreciation.

Free flu shots

The Allen County Health Department will hold an H1N1 flu vaccine clinic on Tuesday, Feb. 2, according to Meyer.

The clinic is from 9 to 11 a.m. "The shots are free and available to everyone. If you have questions about the vaccine, please contact the Allen County Health Department at 419-228-4636," said Meyer.
