Music teacher workshop Feb. 27 at Bluffton University

Bluffton University will host a workshop for area music teachers 1:30-3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27, in Stutzman Lecture Hall in Centennial hall.

The workshop is "Making Your Band Room a Smarter Place: Incorporating SmartMusic and the SmartMusic grade book in your band room." No RSVP is necessary and the workshop is free.

The overall goal of the workshop is to give teachers several strategies to help their students learn more using SmartMusic and the SmartMusic grade book. The workshop will be presented by Rick Land, band and chorus director for the Dawson County Public Schools in Dawsonville, Ga., and Mary Land, director of bands at Pickens County Middle School in Jasper, Ga.

Rick Land received his bachelor of music degree from the University of Georgia, his master of music degree from Vandercook College, his specialist in education degree from North Georgia College and is working on his Ph.D. in philosophy at Georgia State University. He is the conductor of the Junior Division Band at the Interlochen Arts Camp in northern Michigan.

Mary Land received her bachelor of music education degree from the University of Georgia and her master of music education degree from Vandercook College. She often appears at music events throughout the United States as an adjudicator, conductor and clinician.
