Starting the day off with Baldwin-Wallace, the Beavers never found their rhythm, dropping the match in three sets (25-14, 25-18, 25-11).
Struggling to put together an offense, the Beavers were led by junior Bethany Behnfeldt (Napoleon) and freshman Jenny Brown (St. Marys/Memorial) with six kills apiece. Freshman Mackenzie Lauber (Mansfield/Madison) dished out 16 assists for the Beavers.
Defensively, Bluffton was led by junior Hailey Phillips (Malinta/Patrick Henry) with 22 digs. Senior Heather Schierer (Crescent Springs, Ky./St. Henry) and junior Lindsay Krohn (Marysville, Ind./New Washington) added 12 and nine digs, respectively.
For the second match of the day, the Bluffton Beavers did a complete 180 degree turnaround against Capital University, beating the Crusaders handily in four sets (25-19, 27-25, 20-25, 25-15).
The Beavers had three players in double digit kills, starting with Kendra Parmenter (Grove City) who led the way with 19 hammers, while Schierer and Brown chipped in with 11 bombs apiece. Lauber dished out 45 assists for the victors.
The Beaver defense was on fire with five players racking up double digit digs, starting with Phillips at 33 for her career high. Next up was Schierer with a double double, adding 23 digs to the tally. Danica Hicks (Convoy/Crestview) came up with 19 shovels. Lauber's 15 added up to another double double for the freshman, while Krohn finished with 10 digs for the match. The Beavers wrapped up the weekend 2-2 in moving to 8-9 on the season.
Next Bluffton returns home for a conference match-up against Manchester University this Wednesday, Sept. 26, in Founders Hall at 7:30 p.m.
