The Bluffton University volleyball team came away with a set from the Student Princes for the first time since 2004, but couldn’t quite pull it off on Wednesday, Oct. 3, as they fell to regional powerhouse Heidelberg (25-13, 17- 25, 25-19, 25-14).

The dynamic freshmen duo of Jenny Brown (St. Marys/Memorial) and Kendra Parmenter (Grove City) both tallied 10 kills on the night while standout senior Heather Schierer (Crescent Springs, Ky./St. Henry) led the pack with 11 hammers. Directing the offense was freshman setter Mackenzie Lauber (Mansfield/Madison) who handed out 31 assists.

Defensively, the Beavers struggled with only two players garnering double digits. Lindsay Krohn (Marysville, Ind./New Washington) put up 12 digs and fellow junior libero Hailey Phillips (Malinta/Patrick Henry) chalked up 10 digs. To go along with her 12 digs, Krohn also racked up three aces on the night.

Heidelberg was superb up front, hitting a ridiculous .392 for the match with just nine errors on 120 attacks. The Student Princes stuffed the Beavers with nine total blocks while also picking up 10 more digs (58-48) than the home team.

The Beavers have the weekend off to recuperate before returning to Founders Hall on Tuesday, Oct. 9, to take on the Ohio Wesleyan University Battling Bishops at 7 p.m.
