First-year university student named archival intern
Amanda Bartel, a first-year Bluffton University student from Iowa City, Iowa, is this year's recipient of the Mennonite Brethren Historical Commission archival internship.
"We are very pleased to award Amanda the archival internship," said commission chair Don Isaac. "We hope this will be a rich experience for her, and provide insights for the commission as we document and communicate the story of God's work in our lives."
Chosen from among collegiate candidates in the U.S. and Canada, Bartel will spend one week in May and June at each of the four Mennonite Brethren archive centers, in Hillsboro, Kan.; Fresno, Calif.; Abbotsford, B.C.; and Winnipeg, Manitoba. In addition to experiencing a functioning archive, she will gather stories and images that promote the mission of church archives.
A member of First Mennonite Church of Iowa City, Bartel is a history major at Bluffton, where she also works with Carrie Phillips, archives and special collections librarian.
The internship is made possible in part by support from the Katie Funk Wiebe fund. For more information, go to www.mbhistory.org.
