Holy Week services announced at Trinity Lutheran
Trinity Lutheran Church, Jenera's Maundy Thursday service on April 1 will begin at 7 p.m. Pastor Al Schmitzer will deliver the sermon and the choir will sing "Jesus Paid it All" and "Eat This Bread."
The Good Friday service, beginning at 7 p.m. on April 2, will be a Service of Darkness (also known as Tenebrae). It is a service of prayer and meditation. Seven candles, representing Jesus' life, are positioned at the front of the church. As the service progresses the candles are extinguished one by one and the church is slowly darkened to represent the life of Christ as it ebbs away. The final candle, still lit, is removed for a time and then returned, to show hope of what is to come Easter morning. It is a somber service which focuses us on the cross and the saving work which Jesus completed there as he paid for our sins. Pastor Jeff Bolwerk will lead the worship.
Easter Sunrise Service begins at 6:30 a.m. followed by the Easter Breakfast. A festival service will begin at 9:30 am. Pastor Al Schmitzer will preach, the choir will sing "Lo! Our Lord is Risen Today!" and there will be special instrumental music. Each visitor family will receive a DVD called "The Road to Emmaus" which tells about the Easter evening meeting with Jesus and the meaning of Easter in our lives.
Everyone is welcome to attend all services and the Easter Bbreakfast. The church is handicapped accessible and more information may be found at trinitylutheran-jenera.org
