International party takes Maple Crest elders to Spain
Spain was the theme of the 5th annual International Party held recently at Maple Crest, Bluffton. It featured Sally Reeder speaking about the “adventures and mis-adventures” of her family’s life in Spain during the summer of 1970.
At that time, Reeder was working on a master’s degree in Spanish with classes taught by Spanish professors in the city of Madrid while her husband, Dick, played “Mr. Mom” to their four children (ranging in age from 7-16).
Sally regaled those in attendance at the party with stories of everything from the donkey that brought the daily milk (which tasted so horrible that Dick and Sally agreed their children could get their calcium supply from ice cream) to the day their young son, Mark, thought he was asking (in Spanish) for change to play a pin-ball machine but he was given a beer to drink instead (which he did)!
The Reeders’ experiences are all recorded in vivid memories and in the professionally done photographs taken by Dick. Maple Crest elders had the added pleasure of snacking on Spanish olives, almonds, cheese and baguettes.
A special “thank-you” is extended to the Reeder’s daughter, Nancy, who was instrumental in preparing the slide presentation and assisting her mother at the event.
