Colloquium to focus on ‘just’ war

Dr. Rudi Kauffman, an assistant professor of restorative justice at Bluffton University, will discuss “Counting the Cost: Analyzing the Humanitarian Impacts of Just War-making” at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, in Stutzman Lecture Hall in Centennial Hall.

Free and open to the public, the campus colloquium has been postponed one week, from Oct. 4, due to a scheduling conflict.

Kauffman’s presentation is also a report on his Bluffton University Research Center grant project last summer. He will explore unexpected costs and correlations that appear between fighting "just" war and humanitarian outcomes.

“Surprising changes” in how war was both undertaken and experienced from 1960-2000 yield a number of potential research questions surrounding both pacifism and those who favor humanitarian intervention, he says.
