Flutist wins first Mosiman young artist prize
Flutist Kristen Shelly, a Bluffton University senior from Penfield, N.Y., won the first Mosiman Young Artist Competition at Bluffton's recent Bach Festival.
A $100 cash prize accompanied the title for Shelly, a sociology major who was also the Audience Choice winner. She was one of three finalists chosen by faculty to perform at the concert that concluded the festival, hosted by the university's music department.
The other finalists were clarinetist Alycia Althaus, a senior from Findlay, and soprano Kristin Beckman, a sophomore from Ottawa.
Congratulating Kristen Shelly (third from left) on winning Bluffton University's Mosiman Young Artist Competition are contest judges (left to right) Linda Sycks; Christine Purves, a former Bluffton music faculty member; and David Sycks, Bluffton High School band director. Linda and David Sycks have both been adjunct music faculty members at the university.
