June is busting out all over at the Bluffton Public Library - here's the list of events

Bluffton Public Library - June 2014 Events

Storytime (Ages 3 to 5): Visit Storytime on Mondays at 6:30 p.m. or Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m.

Wednesdays in June, the library will offer Tutor Me Paperless, basic, one-on-one Tech/Computer classes.  Register by phone or in person for this service and specify what mode or feature of technology that you would like to discuss.  Possible topics may include the internet, email, e-books, Microsoft programs, database research, or simply navigating a PC, laptop, tablet, etc.

“Exploding and Poisonous Plants; the Decorative and the Deadly”: On June 3rd the Gardeners of the Bluffton/Pandora Area will host this event on the library’s lower level.  This program  is free, open to the public, and does not require registration.

Big Library Read: On June 3-18, Overdrive (the app the library utilizes for e-books and audiobooks) will allow millions of e-book readers to use their library card to read Lauren Berenson’s A Pedigree to Die For instantly-- without holds or waiting lists.  Get your free e-book at ohioebooks.org.

The Noon Book Discussion meets June 4th.  Registration is required; call or stop by to express interest in joining this monthly discussion group.

5K Run/Walk for Literacy: This event hosted by the Friends of the Library starts Saturday, June 7th at 9 a.m., with registration beginning at 8 a.m.  Visit blufftonpubliclibrary.org for more information, including: prizes, prices, and a map of the race’s route.  Registration is required for this activity.

On June 7th, come Paws to Read with Tango, our certified-therapy-dog friend.  Children and children-at-heart are welcome to read to Tango or simply visit with her starting at 11 a.m.

June 7th also kicks off the library’s Summer Read Program entitled Fizz, Boom, Read!  There are many programs available for children, teens, adults, and families alike during June and July.  Pick up a Summer Program Guide at the front desk for more information.

A week-long Sci-Fi Scavenger Hunt will begin on the June 7th Summer Read Program kick-off.  Clue sheets are available at the front desk.  Return your answer sheet by June 14th to be considered for the grand prize drawing!

Can You Outread a Librarian?: Register June 7th for this #OutreadALibrarian challenge in which teens may attempt to read more than library employees.  The goal for this competition is to read at least 2,000 pages, with the combined total of at least 10,000 pages being read by library staff members.  Participants may upload their scariest reading face on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter using the hash tag.

Space Art: At 3 p.m. on June 9th, the library will host a workshop for adults (and adult-supervised teens) led by local artist Ed Yagerman.  Registration is not required, but participants must bring their own poster board and spray paint (including one can of black and two cans of colors of their choice).  The library will provide all other resources (all recyclables!); aspiring artists meet in the parking lot.

Also on June 9th, Monday Movie Madness begins.  Every Monday of June and July, the library will feature a Fizz, Boom, Read-themed movie at 1 p.m.  Families and those of all ages are welcome to enjoy a free movie, popcorn, and beverages on the lower level of the library.  The first movie will be 2007’s animated film, “Meet the Robinsons.”

Jammin’ @ the Library comes to the library again on June 10th and June 19th at 6 p.m.  This is an informal time for acoustic musicians to gather and share their love of music; musicians and listeners meet on the upper level of the library.

Jr. Brain Builders—“Aliens Love Underpants!” (Ages 1-3):  On June 12th at 10:30 a.m., the library will host this fun event which encourages the development of fine and gross motor skills.  Another installment of this program (“Senses”) occurs July 10th.

Reach for the Stars! (Grades K-5) is a program hosted by the Armstrong Air & Space Museum in the lower level of the library June 13th at 1 p.m.  This program explores constellations.

Fizz Boom Pop!  (Grades K-5) On June 18th at 11 a.m. join the library for experiments in this program aimed towards children K-5.  It will take place on the lower level of the library.

ALL About Tea comes to the library June 19th at 3 p.m.  This program is led by the library’s own tea enthusiast, Esther Birkey in the lower level of the library.  As a follow-up activity, ALL About Coffee takes place at 6 p.m. on June 26th and is led by Common Grounds owner, Phil Zimmerly.  The program will start off in the lower level of the library but participants will also take a field trip to Common Grounds. 

Artitude! (grades 6-11) meets at 2 p.m. on June 20th and additional dates in July.  This three-part art event is a part of the #SparkAReaction teen program.

Craft Circle meets in the Youth Services Room at 6 p.m. on June 24th.  This activity for crafters of all sorts does not require registration!  Bring the pieces you’re working on (or the ones you’ve been meaning to start!)
