Bluffton Public Library's October calendar has lots to offer patrons. Here's the schedule:

Tutor Me Paperless returns in October. On Wednesdays the 1st, 8th, 15th, and 22nd, the library will offer basic tutoring for word processing, internet, email, database research, eBook, tablets, and more. These one-hour sessions can be reserved by phone (419-358-5016) or by stopping in to sign up at the front desk.

Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. the BFR hosts its yoga program in the lower level of the library.  To register and for more information, contact the BFR. 

Brain Builders (Lego Club) returns Oct. 16 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.  This program is for grades K-5 and children below the age of 8 years must be accompanied by an adult.  Registration is required.

Storytime (Ages 3 to 5): Starting Oct. 6, visit Storytime on Mondays at 6:30 p.m. or Tuesdays at 10 a.m.  Join the library for a special “spooky” Storytime on Oct. 27 and 28 and come dressed up in your favorite costume.

Chill Zone is back for Tuesdays afternoons (Oct. 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.) Middle and High School students are welcome to hang out at the library for games, movies and crafts every Tuesday.

On Oct. 8 and 22, Browsing Ink returns at 3:30 p.m.  Join the library to explore book 1, Cinder, from the popular series The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. Come relax after school, listen to the next installment of the story and fill your rumbly tummy. This program is for 6-9th grade.

On Oct. 9 at 5 p.m., and Oct. 23 at 10:30 a.m., Jr. Brain Builders returns for another installment.  This is for ages 1-3 and will promote the development of fine motor skills.  Registration is required.

Jammin’ @ the Library returns Oct. 13 and October 27 at 6 p.m.  This is an informal time for acoustic musicians to gather and share their love of music.  Everyone is welcome.

On Oct. 14 at 6:30 p.m., join Beth Theisen of the Johnny Appleseed Parks District for her talk on “Trees of Allen County.” Theisen return on Nov. 18 at 6:30 p.m. for “Winter Feeder Birds of Allen County.”  Registration is required for these events so call or stop by the front desk to ensure your spot!

October is National Fair Trade Month, and Bluffton Public Library will join with a number of local businesses and residents to promote Fair Trade in our town.

On Oct. 16 at 2 p.m. the library will host a Fair Trade Tea Talk.  This is an informal afternoon tea, with scrumptious goodies, to learn more about Fair Trade and what you can do to help.

Registration is required and participants are encouraged to bring cookies or cake to share. Also be on the lookout for our Fair Trade Jewelry Party; get started with your Christmas present shopping and support Fair Trade at the same time. The library will partnering with Ten Thousand Villages, for fun games, prizes, refreshments, artisan stories and shopping on Oct. 24th at 11 a.m.-1 p.m. 

The library will also celebrate Fair Trade Month with a special Go Bananas Storytime on Monday the 6th at 6:30 p.m. and Tuesday the 7th at 10 a.m.

On Oct. 17 at 4 p.m., the library will host “We Geek Travel: Photos of our Travels” featuring the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center.  Anyone is welcome as we view photos from the center’s trips to Europe, Hawaii, the Canadian Rockies, and Colorado. 

There will also be time for questions and refreshments. 

Session two (on Nov. 5 at 7 p.m.) will feature Marilyn Bishop of Bluffton’s Travel Class for “We Geek Travel: Appalachian Bound (Kentucky and church-sponsored home repair projects) and Fixing Sandy (disaster service work in Crisfield, MD.)” There will also be a book display featuring novels and nonfiction about traveling that you can borrow from libraries all over Ohio.

In honor of October’s Family History Month, the Swiss Homestead Society will be at the library Monday, Oct. 20, at 6 p.m. to speak, answer questions, and have a “What is it?” session. 

Have an old, mystery object in your family history?  Bring it and see if they can figure out what it is! (Note: this is not an appraisal, just an attempt at identification.)

On Oct. 27 the Gluten-Free/Allergy Support Group will meet in the lower level of the library at 6 p.m.  Registration is not required for this event, so come to the meeting to become a member.

The library also encourages patrons to stop by to view October’s display case, which will exhibit items from Diane Muller’s international collection of miniature buildings.

The library will also display a collection of old technology the last week of October in its “Tech Cemetery.”  If you have something you would like displayed, please stop in to the library or call 419-358-5016.  This display starts Oct. 27– come see if you can identify them all.
