The Bluffton Public Library has many activities scheduled during November -- something for everyone.
Join Teddy the dog at Paws to Read from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15. Teddy loves hearing stories and getting a good snuggle.
The Holiday Gift Silent Auction will be held from November 6-22. Items include a Dyson vacuum, signed Columbus Blue Jackets items, gift cards, tickets, Americana items, toys, books, gift baskets, and local business items, and may be either bid on or purchased at “Buy Now” prices. The library invites the community to come enjoy refreshments and music on opening night. Every purchase supports library programs and services.
Gardeners of the Bluffton-Pandora Area will meet on the lower level of the library Tuesday, Nov. 4 from 6-7:45 p.m. The program will feature floral arranging.
Storytime (Ages 3 to 5) will finish the fall sessions Tuesday, Nov. 11. Visit Storytime on Mondays at 6:30 p.m. or Tuesdays at 10 a.m., and on Nov. 24-25, there will be a Storytime Thanksgiving special. There is no storytime on Nov. 17 and 18.
Chill Zone continues Tuesday afternoons from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Middle and high school students are welcome to hang out at the library for games, movies and crafts.
Noon Book Discussion meets Wednesday, Nov. 5 for a conversation about Cheryl Strayed’s Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail. Registration is required; call or stop by to express interest in joining this monthly discussion group. In December, the group will discuss Mark Haddon’s The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time.
BFR yoga meets at 6:30 p.m.Wednesdays in the lower level of the library. To register and for more information, please contact the BFR.
Browsing Ink for 4th and 5th graders will meet at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 5 and 19 Explore Cinder, book one of the popular series The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. Relax, listen to the next installment of the story and have a snack.
The “Geek the Library” Campaign continues at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, with the second session of “We Geek Travel.” This session will feature the Bluffton Travel Class (a Bluffton club since 1903) Member Marilyn Bishop will present “Appalachian Bound" (Kentucky and church-sponsored home repair projects), and "Fixing Sandy" (disaster service works in Crisfield, MD).” Refreshments will be served and registration is required.
Brain Builders (Lego Club) for grades K-6 is scheduled for 4:30-5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6 and 20. Children below the age of 8 years must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required.
Jammin’ @ the Library is at 6 p.m. Nov. 10 and 24. This is an informal time for acoustic musicians to gather and share their love of music. Everyone is welcome.
Another “Geek the Library” collaboration will feature Jean Ludwig, consultant with Pampered Chef, at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, on “We Geek Easy Holiday Meals.” Participants will learn simple holiday recipes that use only Pampered Chef products and a microwave, and have a chance at one of two $10 gift certificates for Pampered Chef items. A portion of all proceeds will go to support library programs and services. Registration is required.
Junior Brain Builders for ages 1-3, encourages the development of fine motor skills, and meets at 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13. Registration is required.
Tea Talk meets at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, for conversation, tea, and other refreshments. Check the library’s social media sites and website (blufftonpubliclibrary.org) for a post announcing a guest speaker and topic to be discussed. Registration is required.
Beth Theisen of Johnny Appleseed Metro Park District will discuss "Winter Feeder Bords pf Allen County,. at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18. Register by Nov. 13 at the library front desk or by calling 419-358-5016. There is a minimum of six registrants necessary to have this program.
Fall Food Drive continues until Friday, Nov. 21. Members of the public are invited to join with the library’s Storytime children to share with those in need. Three barrels from the West Ohio Food Bank are distributed around the library and with that comes a challenge: Bluffton Public Library wants to be the first (ever) to fill up all three of these barrels to reach out to the 11 counties in Ohio the food bank supports. To help with this mission, place your non-perishable items to in the barrels. Suggested donations include canned meat, canned fruit, canned soup, canned vegetables, boxed instant potatoes, gravy mix packages, pasta, and rice. The West Ohio Food Bank provides food for local pantries and soup kitchens.
The Gluten-Free/Allergy Support Group will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24 on the lower level of the library at 6 p.m. Registration is not required for this event.
Film Club features a free movie viewing at 5:30 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of every month . Popcorn and lemonade is provided but participants may also bring a brown-bag dinner. This group promotes alternative film choices and thoughtful conversation—any adult is welcome.
NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) is promoted this month. Visit the library’s dedicated NaNoWriMo space in the Richland Room on the lower level lace for a quiet place to write, a change of environment, or some inspiration. There will also be a display of books borrowed from other libraries in the SEO consortium that promote writing, provide tips, and help with brainstorming.
Youth Services will introduce a new program, Bluffton Tot Bop, in December 2014- January 2015. This is for children ages 1-5. Tot Bop will include a mixture of aerobics, dance and games for 30 minute period. This is to encourage tots to stay active during the winter. Parents or guardians are encouraged to participate. The first Tot Bop is at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3. Register via email, phone or at the front desk. Limited spaces available.
The library also encourages patrons to stop by to view November’s display case, which exhibits gifts available during the library’s Holiday Gift Silent Auction.
