University ‘Celebrate the Library’ next week includes blind date with book
Student research and a nutrition and fitness fair will highlight the second annual Celebrate the Library week at Bluffton University’s Musselman Library. The week’s events, from Feb. 10-13, are free and open to the public.
On Tuesday, Feb. 10, Bluffton students Matt McCoy, Daniel Piero, Carly Unruh and Amanda Bartel will share details of their research projects and recent scholarly experiences from 4-5 p.m. in the library’s reading room.
At the same time and location on Thursday, Feb. 12, eight students nominated by faculty members will each give five-minute presentations on their research or creative work. That “Five Minutes of Fame” program will follow a research fair in which, from 1-4 p.m. in various library locations, nearly 40 faculty-nominated students representing many majors and programs will showcase their academic and creative work.
On “Wellness Wednesday,” Feb. 11, the reading room will host the nutrition and fitness fair from 9-11 a.m. Leading activities at the fair will be students in Jeanna Haggard’s nutrition education and communication class and Heather Bruder’s personal training and exercise class. Haggard and Bruder are assistant professors of food and nutrition and sport management, respectively.
The week will conclude with “Blind Date with a Book” from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13. In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, library visitors may choose a wrapped book—or DVD or game—from a display of eligible “dates,” some of which will contain hidden prizes.
