Greg Probst named Bluffton Farmers' Market manager
Greg Probst will serve as manager of the Bluffton Farmers’ Market this year.
The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce announced the appointment. This year the chamber took over the responsibilities of the popular downtown Saturday market. The market will enter its 11th season when it opens on Saturday, May 2.
Probst has served as a vendor at the market since 2008. He in involved in Probst Family Farm, a Certified Naturally Grown Farm, located at 3463 State Route 103, Bluffton. In addition to his farmers’ market participation, Probst is also a member of the Bluffton fire department and EMS.
Farmers’ market shoppers know the Probst vendor booth especially with its familiar maple syrup products. Each spring the Probst family taps up to 500 maple trees to produce its syrup.
On their 90-acre farm the family also raises pastured-based meats including beef, pork, turkey, chicken and eggs.
“We appreciate the work of Peter Previte as farmers’ market coordinator over the past several years,” said Fred Steiner of the chamber. “Last fall Previte approached the chamber, inviting us to take over the market. We jumped at this chance because the market is such an important piece of Bluffton’s Saturday morning attraction.”
The chamber has several ideas to promote the market. Those plans will be announced later this spring. Basically the market will continue in its Citizens National Bank parking lot location. The market will be open each Saturday morning from May 2 through October – rain or shine.
