Saturday's Arbor Day celebration includes planting of three trees at Shannon Cemetery
Tree planting for Bluffton's Arbor Day 2015 will highlight the Shannon Cemetery Park project, according to Joanne Antibus, of the Bluffton Tree Commission.
The celebration takes place at the cemetery on Jefferson Street at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 25. It is open to the public.
Bluffton Tree Commission members will enhancing this native woodland environment with the planting of three native trees:
• Pin Oak,
• American Elm (Dutch Elm resistant variety) and a
• Sugar Maple.
“Headed by Dick Boehr, the cemetery project aims to renovate the long-neglected cemetery along Jefferson Street at Riley Creek. The main feature of this park is the historic headstone display,” she said.
Other proposed features include a gazebo-style shelter, a rain garden, a service club feature wall, and a stone-walking path nestled along the native hardwood riparian forest.
Boehr will speak about this project following the tree planting on Saturday. Refreshments will be served.
In case of rain, the ceremony will move to the third floor of the Bluffton town hall.
